Help us Raise €12,000 to Support Practitioners
|
|
By Rikko Voorberg, Director of the Network
We are raising money this December. A very concrete way to support migration practitioners in A World of Neighbours. It will be used to bring us together, to share better stories, to lift the spirits of those in need, to make people on the move feel welcomed, to make host societies more humane. Share what you can as an end-of-year gift to each and every migration practitioner in our network. Thank you!

A World of Neighbours’ mission is to empower migration practitioners through maintaining an interreligious and cross sectoral peer-to-peer support network of practitioners. We foster a “community of practice” among those working on the front lines of accompaniment of people on the move, and social cohesion.
AWoN is the only network of its type - and we need your support to keep up the good work.
Would you consider making a donation to keep us going?

‘The voice that tells otherwise should be heard’

Anette Ljungberg somehow has always felt that, as a deacon, her mission would be by the side of people on the move in Sweden. In Blidsberg,‘a very small village of about 500 residents’ where she lived for years, she started accompanying newcomers in their learning of a new country and culture - and supporting them through the hardships of exile and exclusion.
A few years ago, Anette moved to a wealthy, predominantly white neighborhood - and suddenly found herself in a parish where people on the move did not seem to exist. Inspired by AWoN’ spirit, which she wishes to spread, and encouraged by her fellow practitioners, whose support she feels beyond borders, she started seeking for ways to bring the topic to the center of the conversation in her parish.

Zoltán Somogyvári is a Programme Officer and Community Organiser of the Refugee Programme at the Hungarian Helsinki Committee. Providing help to refugees, detainees and victims of law enforcement violence for decades, they are, since the authoritarian turn of the Hungarian government of Viktor Orbán, ‘defending the rule of law and upholding democratic values and principles’, under constant threat. For the past four years, Zoltán and his colleagues have been running a youth-engagement and political integration project that is very close to his heart.

Forest Calls - at the Poland-Belarus border with Grupa Granica activists
|
|
‘A feeling that will stay with me for a long time after this visit is the stark contrast between the beauty of the forest and quietness of the region, and the profound anger at what happens inside the forest as life goes on around it.'
A few days before taking part in AWoN’s 4th Annual Summit, two of our practitioners, Zoé Balakrishnan, AWoN Board member and Learning & Exchange Programme Coordinator, and Aude Sathoud, AWoN Communications and Fundraising Coordinator, got to join Anna Alboth, AWoN Advisory Board member, journalist and activist, in one of the bases from which Grupa Granica activists have been operating for the past four years to provide assistance to people on the move crossing the Polish-Belarusian border. Zoé and Aude, whose visit was made possible by AWoN’s Peer-to-Peer visit fund, supported by UMCOR, had the opportunity to meet and exchange with local activists, receive training in emergency support, and learn more about the situation.

This December, as A World of Neighbours gets ready to enter its fifth year of existence as an independent foundation, we are thrilled to launch our first ever crowdfunding campaign. We both wish to shed light on the incredible work migration practitioners accomplish every day all around Europe, and to sustain and strenghten the support and solidarity AWoN has been offering them since its creation.
From peer-to-peer support sessions online and in-person visits to share knowledge and practices, through learning and exchange webinars and participatory research projects, to an annual gathering and retreat, AWoN's mission is to support those who support. We are there to care for, teach and learn from, and stand with, one another - so as to build a strong, resilient and committed alliance of migration practitioners, working with and for people on the move and host communities - every day and for long.
