THE DIRECTOR'S NOTE

One heart at a time

By Rikko Voorberg, Director of the Network

This month, I am writing to you from the divided city of Jerusalem or Al-Quds. The Holy city, the city of Peace, where a peaceful future is a dream that seems to get further and further out of grasp.

Such a similar situation to the hopes and dreams of all practitioners in Europe. We have set ourselves a mission and a vision for a diverse and welcoming Europe, and it’s not an option to give up on that. Too many people will suffer if we do.

I attended the historic People’s Peace Summit with people that refuse to give up on hopes and dreams. And it’s called the People’s Peace Summit for a reason, because our hope lies not in the hands of governments and administrations but in people who are doing the daily work and their spirit. It’s the people and has always been the people, one heart at a time.

At A World of Neighbours we are preparing our own Summit in Poland, we just received new support from UMCOR, the United Methodist Relief Organisation. The Swedish National Network gathered and is growing. The work is expanding, join us in whatever way you can and let’s support each other in this World of Neighbours that we are and that’s our future.

AWoN Sweden is on!

Last March, on the occasion of Migrations Day, a few practitionners gathered in Stockholm mosque and decided to start the A World of Neighbors local Sweden network. On August 20-21, during the Ecumenical Week in Stockholm, they will be holding their first meeting!

AWoN's dream of regional networks' organizing to strenghten our European alliance is beginning to come to life - and we cannot wait to see it blossom! Learn more on AWoN Sweden on our website: AWoN Sweden is on! – A World of Neighbours | Multi-faith Network for Migration Practitioners.

Aude Sathoud appointed as Communications' Coordinator

It is a joy to introduce our new Communications Coordinator!

Aude Sathoud, who entered the AWoN family as a practitioner in September 2021, has been a Network companion ever since, and already involved in communications those past few years.

Having worked as a Project Coordinator and Advocacy Campaign Manager in organisations supporting people on the move in Athens and Paris, Aude is a researcher in cultural studies and critical theory as well. Constantly navigating between multiple spaces and forms - from Amsterdam to Brazzaville, poetry to theory, they currently are in the sketching phase of both a PhD project and first feature-film.

We are very happy to welcome Aude back in our crew and excited for this new phase of AWoN’s communications!

 HELP US STAY AFLOAT

We love your support!

A World of Neighbours’ mission is to empower migration practitioners through maintaining an interreligious and cross sectoral peer-to-peer support network of practitioners. We foster a “community of practice” among those working on the front lines of accompaniment of people on the move, and social cohesion.

AWoN is the only network of its type - and we need your support to keep up the good work.

Would you consider making a donation to keep us going?
